On the afternoon of May 19, the Ceremony of the One-year Countdown to the 90th Anniversary of founding of Wenzhou University, moderated by Vice President Cai Shuguang, was held in the campus. The leadership, representatives of retired staff, heads and deputy heads of the working group for the preparations for the 90th anniversary, heads of colleges and departments, representatives of alumni, teachers and students attended the ceremony offline, and the alumni and people from all walks of life joined the event via video links. 

In the session of the appointment of the “University Anniversary Ambassador,” Xie Shuhua, Secretary of the Communist Party Committee of Wenzhou University, issued letters of appointment to 17 ambassadors. It is hoped that they can contribute wisdom and strength to the upcoming event and the high-quality development of the university.

Wu Dong, a Class 1982 graduate majoring the Chinese study, delivered a speech as the representative of the alumni. He expressed great gratitude to his alma mater, and said that WZU, as a provincial key university with the qualification of granting doctoral degrees is the cradle of higher education in Wenzhou. Wu also said the alumni would further play an active role in the celebration activities and the prosperity and development of their alma mater.

Xie Shuhua, Zhao Min, President of the university, representatives of retired staff, Chen Aihua, the former university party secretary, Wu Dong, Wang Jun, the teacher representative and Dean of the College of Civil Engineering and Architecture, Lin Yitian, the Class 2019 undergraduate student majoring in pre-school education from the College of Teacher Education altogether lighted the screen to officially launch the one-year countdown to the 90th Birthday of Wenzhou University.

Zhao Min reviewed the 89-year history of Wenzhou University and elaborated the blueprint for the development of the university. He pointed out that in recent years, the university has deepened the teaching reform, improved the level of scientific research, served the local community, strengthened the international cooperation and stayed committed to cultural heritage, with fruitful results achieved one after another. These achievements would not have been possible without unremitting efforts made by predecessors including the retired staff, alumni at home and abroad, people from all walks of life, and teachers and students.

Zhao Min emphasized that the 90th anniversary would be a milestone, and the countdown ceremony marked the preparation work had entered a critical stage. It is hoped that the whole staff and students would work together and comprehensively improve the teaching and research strength to create a good atmosphere for the coming celebration.
